أكبر مصنع لسكر الشمندر السكري في العالم يوجد في جمهورية مصر العربية، وقد تم إنشاؤه في شهر أيار/ مايو الماضي. من قبل شركة القناة للسكر التي تأسست بمساهمة من مجموعة شركات جمال الغرير/الإماراتية، كذلك شركة الأهلي كابيتال القابضة، والذراع الاستثمارية للبنك الأهلي المصري. أيضًا شركة موربان إنرجي ليمتد الإماراتية. حيث تم تشغيل أكبر مصنع لإنتاج سكر البنجر في العالم، وقد تم هذا في مركز ملوي في محافظة المنيا، باستثمارات تبلغ 400 مليون دولار أمريكي. هذا وقد أعلنت الشركة عن البدء بتشغيل الخط الأول والثاني للمصنع بطاقة إنتاجية تصل إلى 18 ألف طن سكر يوميًا. وذلك تجهيزًا للوصول للطاقات الإنتاجية القصوى والتي تبلغ مليون طن سنويًا خلال العام القادم 2023. وعند حدوث ذلك ستحقق مصر الاكتفاء الذاتي من السكر بنسبة 100%. وهنا نود الإشارة إلى أن المصنع مقام على مساحة 240 فدانًا، بالإضافة لاستصلاح واستزراع ما يقارب 181 ألف فدان باستثمارات إجمالية للمشروع قدرت قيمتها بما يقارب مليار دولار أمريكي. كما يحوي المصنع على أكبر صومعة لتخزين السكر في العالم وذلك بطاقة تخزينية تصل إلى 417 ألف طن.
