تصنف الهند في المرتبة الثانية ضمن قائمة أكثر 10 دول منتجة للحرير في العالم، حيث يبلغ حجم إنتاجها السنوي 161127 طن. كما يتم إنتاج القسم الأكبر من هذا الإنتاج في مناطق البيهار، ماديا براديش، كشمير، أوريسا وآسام.

بالإضافة إلى ذلك، فإن الهند تعتمد على دودة القز في إنتاج الحرير أكثر من بقية الحشرات، وتستخدمه في صناعة الملابس المحلية والأغطية والستائر. كما تصدر الفائض عن حاجة السوق المحلي إلى دول الخارج ومن أبرزها فرنسا.

تتربع إيطاليا على عرش أكثر الدول إنتاجا للحرير بين دول أوروبا، حيث تمتلك مزارع خاصة بتربية دود القز، وعدة شركات لتصنيعه مثل ongetta srl وongetta bio silk، التي تصنع المنسوجات الحريرية وتصدرها إلى العديد من دول العالم. كما أن أغلب مراكز إنتاج الحرير تقع في مدينة البندقية، كومو، جنيف، ميلان وبورغامو.

مصر أكبر دولة عربية منتجة للحرير

تعد مصر الدولة العربية الأكثر إنتاجا للحرير، حيث يبلغ إنتاجها حوالي 119 طن في العام. ولكن حجم إنتاجها قد تراجع بشكل كبير بالمقارنة مع الأعوام السابقة، وهذا يعود لتخلي معظم منتجي الحرير عن مهنتهم، واستيراد الحرير بكميات ضخمة من الخارج ولا سيما من الصين.

بالإضافة إلى ذلك، فإنه ومنذ عام 2015 تعمل الحكومة بالتعاون مع شركة وادي الحرير للتنمية على إعادة إنعاش إنتاج الحرير محليًا، من خلال إقامة مشاريع خاصة بزراعة التوت الذي تتغذى عليه دودة القز، وبالتالي فإن هذا سيزيد من إنتاج الحرير. لذلك فقد تم تكوين فريق عمل مختص يتضمن العديد من الخبراء، واستخدام التكنولوجيا الحديثة في مزارع تعمل بنظام zero waste.  كما تم زراعة 7000 شجرة توت في كل فدان، مما سيساعد على تغطية حاجة السوق المحلي والعمل على تصدير قسم من الإنتاج للخارج.

كاواماتا المدينة المنتجة لأرق أنواع الحرير في العالم
